Thank-you Fotoski for the star tip
It’s a spectacular image.
I have a theory about the #10 image in a combine. Often they are the best images. Often they are first in the next contest they are in.
Thanks for your thoughts could very well be.
What more can I say? It’s an observation I have had for a long time (ask Trent). It dates from watching Michael Williamson talk once — while receiving the NPPA Newspaper Photographer of the Year Award. Before showing his portfolio, he was showing slides of snapshots he collected from thrift stores, garage sales and estate sales. With all his “learned” knowledge of the art and craft of photojournalism he was trying to figure out what made a good photograph. He noticed that quite often the snapshots he liked, were also the ones that had notes scribbled on the back — good or bad — from the “not so learned” people who had just taken the photos as a record of their lives. The conclusion of the talk was that the best images were the ones that make you feel something emotionally — good or bad. I apply that to fovi8 in thinking that: If you can’t be 1, 2 or 3, then 10 is the next best, because at least the image got a response. The worst place to be is 6, 7 or 8, because that means people mostly didn’t care and were in fact mildly disapproving or just bored. I hope that made sense.
Regardless, I hold this image in high regard. Well done.
